Organisation
The national non-profit organisation Swiss Volunteers is aimed at...
...
people who would like to get involved on a voluntary basis;
...
organisers who can hold their events only thanks to volunteers and who would
like to plan and show their appreciation more effectively for the commitment of
their volunteers.
Swiss Volunteers promotes public-spirited exchange and unites people in a useful activity for society. We support event organisers in carrying out their events by using synergies in voluntary work. We are committed to the sustainable promotion and appreciation of voluntary work and we raise public awareness of its importance.
More than 100 sporting and cultural events a year throughout Switzerland have benefited from the range of services offered by Swiss Volunteers for many years. We will be pleased to support you with your event too.
The organisation does not pursue any commercial aims and does not seek to make any profit. The organisation is politically and denominationally neutral.
Swiss Volunteers is guided by the Charter for Ethics in Sport of Swiss Olympic and stands for a collective and respectful involvement at and in all matters around events.
Swiss Volunteers is financed through its partner gazenergie.
History
The first version of the web-based platform, which forms the basis of Swiss Volunteers' services today, was initiated by Swiss Olympic in 2007. The aim was to be able to efficiently map and process volunteer assignments for the complex structure of the "Gigathlon" with its many different stages and venues. One year later, the Swiss venues of the UEFA European Cup also used the platform for their volunteer management. Due to the successful implementation of the first events, Swiss Olympic launched the "Swiss Olympic Volunteers" project in 2010 together with its partner Erdgas (now gazenergie). The new platform was to cover the needs of both large events such as the Lauberhorn races or the Federal Gymnastics Festival and small to medium-sized events with fewer resources for volunteer management.
The "HERA" platform was subsequently developed and contributed to the successful execution of many Swiss sporting events. After five years, Swiss Olympic decided to make "Swiss Olympic Volunteers" independent. SwissTopSport (STS) with President Ruedi Kunz agreed to take over the support of the platform, as many STS events were dependent on its functions. In 2017, SwissTopSport decided to found the non-profit association "Swiss Volunteers". This was done with the idea of separating the risks from SwissTopSport, implementing a clear legal form and distributing responsibilities more efficiently.
Until the end of 2019, the association managed and developed the original version of the platform. At the beginning of 2020, the new Swiss Volunteers platform was presented together with the developer company Clicsoft GmbH. The operation of the previous platform was discontinued at the same time. In April 2020, Ruedi Kunz decided to cut back a bit and resigned as president of Swiss Volunteers. He was succeeded by Nayla Stössel.
